Police Clearance Certificate Thailand

Thai Police Clearance Certificate for Foreigners

Whether you are a foreign or Thai national looking to travel, study, or work abroad, you may be required to provide a Thai Police Clearance Certificate while preparing your application. This specific document will prove whether or not you have a criminal record in Thailand and is often used for official purposes.

On this page, we will cover what a Thailand Police Clearance Certificate is, when it is required, and what documents you will need to provide to get one as either a foreigner or a Thai national.

What is the Police Clearance Certificate in Thailand?

A Thailand Police Clearance Certificate confirms if you have a criminal record or legal issues in Thailand. It’s valid for 8 to 12 months and is recognized internationally. You might need this certificate when applying for a visa, a job, or admission to an educational institution abroad. But keep in mind that it only reports your record in Thailand. If you’ve lived in other countries, you may need to obtain separate background checks from each of them.

It is possible to apply for a Police Clearance Certificate from within Thailand and abroad in a nation with a Royal Thai Embassy.

When Is the Police Clearance Certificate Required?

More often than not, you will be asked to provide a Thailand Police Clearance Certificate for official purposes. Below is a list of some of these situations:

  • Visa or Residency Applications: Most countries will ask for a Thailand Police Clearance Certificate to see if you have any criminal record in the country you had previously resided in and if you will pose a risk to their citizens.
  • Overseas Employment: Employers tend to ask for a Thailand Police Clearance Certificate to make sure that potential employees have no criminal record and that they will not pose a risk to the company’s employees and reputation.
  • University or Educational Institution Applications: Some educational institutions will ask for a Thailand Police Clearance Certificate to make sure that international students or employees won’t pose a danger to the other students and staff.
  • Adoption Procedures: Adoption agencies tend to ask for a Thailand Police Clearance Certificate to make sure that prospective parents are suitable to adopt and care for a child.

The documents you will have to provide to the Royal Thai Police will vary depending on whether you’re a foreigner or a Thai national, but the process afterward remains the same after submitting them to the Royal Thai Police.
