Dear Hi Rex
I have a flight in less than a week
I sent the required forms to the embassy but have not yet received a reply.
I have all the required documents but am waiting for a reply from the embassy.
what should I do ?
Thanks
Dear Bebars,
Good day.
You can imagine how busy the embassy might be at this time. Usually they only have 1 to 2 people doing the COE and the visas. I recommend for you to give the embassy 1 week to process your COE. if you do not hear from the embassy within 3 days after you have submitted or registered for the COE, please give them a call or send them an email with your reference number/code.
Thank you.
Hi Rex,
Does babies (5 months) need to do the pcr upon arrival?
Thanks!
Dear Oscar,
Yes, they need RT PCR test before traveling and they need RT PCR upon arrival and during their stay.
Thank you.
Hello Rex
I have applied for COE and already got the pre-approval but I have an issue with the second step, I uploaded all the documents needed but I can not save my application on the website and I dont know why. Could you help me please?
Thank you
P.S.: I am flying to Thailand from Paris on July 2nd and need my COE ASAP.
Dear Timothee,
Good day.
I would recommend for you to call the Thai Embassy about this. If you were not able to save the first time, please exit the website and go back again using the red button EDIT/CONFIRM TRAVEL.
Thank you.
Can i stay in the same room with friend.
Dear Rona,
Good day.
This question should be address directly to your SHA+ Hotel. I believe that unmarried couples may be allowed as long as you have made a reservation for 2 guests.
Thank you.
Hi, can I go over to the six senses in Phang nga via boat from Phuket or do I need to stay in Phuket for 14 days first?
Dear Tina,
Good day.
Phang Nga is not Phuket. Phang Nga is another province. Therefore, you must stay in Phuket for 14 days and then you can travel to Phang Nga province.
Thank you.
For the travel insurance do we have to purchase with the link provided here? Or can we get any travel insurance that clearly states it covers COVID-19 related medical bills?
Dear Woojin,
Good day.
The link we provided here is the trusted and reliable insurance that has been used in applying for COE which never had any problem with the Thai Embassy. However, feel free to submit another insurance for your COE application.
Thank you.
Could i take in-direct flight from HK to Phuket and transit at Singapore?
Thanks!
Dear Keiko,
Good day.
Yes, you can fly Hong Kong-Singapore-Phuket. That is not a problem.
Thank you.
Dear thaiembassy.com,
in Europe is UK as Variant Virus Country on the high risk List. Is it not too risky to let British into Thailand?
Dear Sherlock,
Good day.
We appreciate your concern. At the moment, the Thai government still sees UK as medium risk so we will see in the coming days.
Thank you.
Hi, I am fully vaccinated in USA with the one dose Johnson & Johnson, can I use that to apply for my COE since no second dose is available?
Dear Ely,
Good day.
Yes, you can use that for the COE application under Phuket Sandbox. Should you require any assistance, please check this page:
https://www.siam-legal.com/other-services/certificate-of-entry-thailand.php
Thank you.
Hi Rex,
you have mentioned that Thai nationals and Permanent resident holders can have access to the Phuket sandbox, great.
However both groups have “unlimited” visa, how does it work for the Covid 19 insurance then? Does one take one for 30 days? this is unclear.
Thanks,
Kind Regards,
Pascal
Dear Pascal,
Good day.
Yes that is correct. However, please know that Thai nationals are not required to have COVID insurance. As for the foreigner with Thai visas, the maximum permit to stay is 1 year, therefore that person can buy a COVID insurance maximum of 365 days. The insurance must cover the remaining days in the visa or permit to stay.
Thank you.
Hi Rex,
I’m a resident in the UAE along with my family and we haven’t left the country for the past 18 months. Both my wife and I are fully vaccinated with Sinopharm and it’s been more than 14 days since our second dose, I believe we comply with the rules? However my son is 9 and he’s not allowed to take the vaccination here so will he be allowed to enter Phuket with us? Also the embassy here is still saying that the sandbox is not confirmed and still nothing is mentioned on their site (today is June 30th) so we’re still not confident to book our flights.
Dear Adam,
Good day.
The Phuket Sandbox has already been published into law. Your child can travel with you even without vaccination. Your child only needs RT-PCR COVID test prior to coming to Thailand and also all of you must apply for the COE.
Thank you.
Is the Uk classified as a low to medium risk country?
Dear Howard,
Yes, The United Kingdom is currently listed as medium risk country.
Thank you.
Hi Rex,
I live in Thailand, had my both vaccines and would like to stay in a mid risk country 14 days and come back but one of the rules say i should stay min 21 days in a low or mid risk country.. Since Thailand is in high risk country is it possible to stay 14 days or i should stay min 21?
thank you
Dear Alex,
Good day.
The other option for you is to return to Thailand and enter through Bangkok. You only need to do the quarantine and no problem if you stayed less than 21 days in that medium risk country abroad. I am yet to verify if it is alright for a person who came from Thailand to a medium risk country and returning to Thailand in less than 21 days, if they can qualify for the Phuket Sandbox.
Thank you.
I sent in my application for the certificate of entry over three weeks ago and was denied this Monday morning the 28th. I fly to Phuket on July 5 and I am scrambling to hopefully get my certificate of entry this week prior to leaving. When I re-registered I obviously clicked on the sandbox program. Does anybody have any idea how long this will take and will I have my certificate of entry Prior to leaving this Saturday, July 5 at 3 oāclock.
Dear Bradley,
Good day.
It depends which Thai Embassy did you apply for the COE. The embassy might have been overwhelmed with the number of applications and the verification of Vaccination documents may take longer than the usual COE application. I recommend for you call or email the Thai Embassy and follow up your application and you may use your 6-digit reference number.
Thank you.
3] Please upload a confirmation of PCR test package. (COVID-19 RT-PCR test periodically for 3 times in case of staying in Phuket for 14 days)
What is a PRC package? Where do you buy?
Dear George,
Good day.
This is the receipt of your RT-PCR test in Phuket. Please ask your SHA+ Hotel in Phuket if they can arrange this for you.
Thank you.
For Thai Nationals who are Resident in Phuket, what is story for Covid 19 Insurance, do they require this Insurance
Dear Conor,
The COVID Insurance is not required for Thai nationals returning to Thailand. However, with the Phuket Sandbox, the system requires a COVID insurance to get the COE. It might change in the future but right now it is required.
Thank you.
I have been in USA for 2 months. First I will travel to UAE for 7 days then enter Phuket Sandbox afterwards.
Since I was not in UAE for 21 days, am I still eligible for the Phuket Sandbox?
Thanks!
Dear Il Chun,
Good day.
The requirement is that you have stayed in a country or countries listed as low or medium risk in the past 21 days. Both USA and UAE are under the medium risk countries. Yes, you are eligible to apply for the COE under Phuket Sandbox if you are fully vaccinated and you meet the other requirements.
Thank you.
where can I review the country listing? I’ve searched on the MoPH website but can’t find it.
Dear Ross,
Which country are you located right now, so that we can check if the COE Application for Phuket Sandbox is activated in that country or not?
Thank you.
Hello,
I’m coming to Phuket from canada, and I’m only.34 years old,.so I can only get the tourist 60 day visa. But I can apply to stay longer at the immigration bureau in Bankok. Can I just buy a 1 way ticket into Phuket with hopes of prolonging my stay? Or do I need a return ticket?
My fiance is a Thai national, we want to get married while I’m there, but she lives in Bandung so she can’t come with me to Bangkok to sign the documents needed until she’s vaccinated. And she can’t get vaccinated until October I believe. I really want to stay in Thailand for quite a while. 7 months at least. And I will be bringing about 500’000 baht with me. Is there anyway the Thai government will let me stay if I open a Thai bank account???? I haven’t seen my fiance in about 17 months because of covid.
Thankyou for your time.
Dear Sammy,
Good day.
1. Yes, you can extend the 60-day TR visa for another 30 days inside Thailand or you can even extend it for 60 days under COVID extension.
2. Yes, you must book an exit flight within 60 days for the sake of having your visa and COE approved. Should you decide to cancel that flight or to postpone that return flight, you can do that once you are already in Thailand.
3. Thai nationals can enter Thailand even without vaccination. They can enter through Bangkok and undergo 14 nights quarantine.
Thank you.
Is the UK a low or medium risk country? Are there any direct flights from the UK?
Dear Steph,
Good day.
Yes, the UK is on the list of countries eligible for the Phuket Sandbox. There might be no direct flight at this time but you can book a flight to Phuket with transit in the UAE, Qatar, Hong Kong or Singapore.
Thank you.
Thai airways are flying direct I believe from July until September.
This is all very helpful! Thanks
Am I able to arrange and take my own rental car on arrival from Phuket Airport or does the hotel have to transport me?
Do I have to stay in hotel until first PCR test results are finalized?
Dear James,
Good day.
Yes, you can arrange your own transport but the issue here is that, your hotel might arrange the COVID test at the airport or at the hotel, so it is better if you arrange the transport with your hotel also. Yes, you are supposed to stay in your hotel until the result is out within the same day.
Thank you.
Hi, Do you still have to book with a semi-commercial approved flight? The list that is available here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ijBJOTgFJPAuWUfkPIA60iniXB9j9Ba2XHafXzA6JCw/edit#gid=2100613241
Dear Kelly,
This list if flights to Bangkok. You can book directly with the airline for your flight to Phuket. Just make sure that your flight will not stop in Bangkok or else you will be quarantined in Bangkok for 2 weeks. Check Singapore Airlines, Qatar or Emirates.
Thank you.
My Thai Embassy said my CoE waits for confirmation of my vaccination (Pfizer) from Thai Public Health Ministry. I attached all documents which I received related to vaccination including EU Digital COVID Certificate. My flight is 1st July. Anyone has similar experience and know how long takes to get this confirmation?
Dear Pawel,
Good day.
This problem is expected since the COE application only opened June 28th. It is a smart thing to come to Phuket middle of July. I recommend for you to call the embassy and ask them to expedite your application. As of writing, the COE website is down. Please allow 3 to 5 days for the process.
Thank you.
Hi Rex, are you able to enter via Phuket if you have a non-immigrant B or O visa or is the scheme for tourists only?
Dear Anita,
Good day.
Yes, returning Thai nationals or returning residents of Thailand are allowed to apply for COE under Phuket Sandbox. Just make sure you have SHA+ hotel booking for 14 nights and you also have the COVID 19 insurance valid for the duration of your visa.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
What rules apply to foreigners who are living in Thailand, who have a Thai spouse, are not vaccinated yet and want to make a domestic trip from their city (Khon Kaen) to Phuket?
Can you help me with this please or can you tell me where I can find detailed information about domestic travelling ?
Thank you very much in advance !
Dear Nick,
Good day.
She can travel to Phuket as long as she has a COVID RT-PCR test before going to Phuket.
Thank you.
Is the Johnson and Johnson vaccine approved for the COE and the sandbox deal?
Dear Werne,
Good day.
When you apply for the COE, yes, it is listed as one of the approved vaccines.
Thank you.
Hello,
do we still need a fit to fly document from out DR.?
To come to Phuket after July 1, 2021?
Dean
Dear Dean,
Good day.
Fit-to-fly certificate is no longer required. You only need to have a negative result of your RT-PCR COVID test taken within 72 hours before your flight to Thailand (or international flight from your country of departure).
Thank you.
Hello,
Can you confirm the requirements from domestic travelers from Bangkok please? Both parents have had one shot of AZ and the child is 5 years old. There is no need for any COVID tests right?
Dear Rachael,
Good day.
For local travelers from Bangkok to Phuket, you only need to be one of the following:
-Fully vaccinated or one dose of AstraZeneca (more than 14 days)
-You had RT-PCR COVID test with negative result before you travel to Phuket
-You have recovered from COVID
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
Do we need to show book confirmation for the COVID tests on arrival and at day6/7 do get the Certificate of Entry?
There is almost no information about this and the Embassy in UK didn’t mentioned. The SHA+ hotel we booked (we already have the QR codes) don’t know about how covid teste will be conducted.
But to submit the last part of the CoE I saw a disclaimer saying I need to provide my receipt of futures covid tests.
Do you know how this process works? Can I pay for those tests on arrival?
Thanks in advance
Dear Raul,
Good day.
Apparently, the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles has requested a COVID 19 tests receipt or confirmation for the Day 1, 6/7 and 12/13 depending how long is your stay in Thailand. I recommend for you to get in touch with your SHA+ if they can assist you arrange this.
Thank you.
The COE form asks for the Thai National ID number for Thai citizens, however my 7 year old daughter doesn’t have her Thai ID yet because she’s been living in Dubai for the last year.
Will this be an issue? Can she fly back without a Thai ID? She obviously has a Thai passport.
Eagerly waiting for the outcome of the COE application
Dear Adam,
Good day.
You can get the Thai ID number of the child in her passport’s profile page.
Thank you.
I have 2 questions:
First can i stay in more than one hotel during my stay in phuket when my first hotel i will atay just for 3 nights and then i will move to another hotel?
Second where i can do the covid pcr test?
Dear Mahmoud,
Good day.
You must stay at least 7 days in the first SHA+ Hotel and then you can move to another SHA+ hotels.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
I noticed from a list the the Nation paper that the Netherlands has been added to the list of countries that can make use of the Phuket Sandbox model.
Could you please confirm that it is indeed possible to make use of the Phuket Sandbox model when you travel from the Netherlands?
Thanks
Dear Tim,
Good day.
Yes, I confirm that Tourism Authority of Thailand added Netherlands in the list. You can apply for the COE at the Thai Embassy or Consulate in the Netherlands.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,

When I try to apply for COE under the section for Type of Permitted Person the only selectable options under the Tourist section are “STV’ “Bicycle Tournament” “Badminton Tournament” “Film Crew Member” “Sports Activity/Tournament”.
I’m not sure which one of these apply to me. Should I select ‘STV’ to apply for Phuket Sandbox COE? Please help and tell me what i should do, my flight is due to arrive in Phuket on July 16th.

Hi,

Thank you.
Hi Rex,
I will be having my 2nd Pfizer vaccine this coming Friday, I will get a physical card to say Iām vaccinated but the digital certificate wonāt be released until late July in Ireland.
Will a scan of this physical card be enough when applying for my COE?
Thanks
Sean
Dear Sean,
Good day.
For the COE application in the UK, the Thai Embassy London will require the Vaccination Document with QR code. It is called EU Digital COVID 19 Certificate.
Thank you.
Hi Rex , if I am fully vaccinated but do not have a EU digital cert because ireland is not issuing them until the 19th July , can I still get the COE for phuket if I prove I am full vaccinated? Thanks.Cathal .
Dear Cathal,
Good day.
Please call the Thai Embassy in London if they can adjust the requirement for you or perhaps, you can adjust your flight until you get the required document.

Dear Wayne,

Do Thai nationals going from abroad to Phuket Sandbox need to present a PCR test ?
Dear Peter,
Good day.
Yes, the Thais are required to have a COE and RT-PCR COVID test before traveling to Phuket.
Thank you.
hello Rex,
my question is if a connection flight with Turkish Airlines, coming from a green country in Europe, with transit at Instanbul Airport, and direct flight from Istanbul to Phuket, is accepted.
thanks
Dear Leon,
Good day.
Turkey was included by the Tourism Office of Thailand as eligible for Phuket Sandbox. So it is alright for you to transit in Istanbul to Phuket.
Thank you.
Do Thais also need insurance covering for covid if going to Phuket Sandbox?
Dear Peter,
Good day.
The COVID 19 Travel Insurance is not required for Thai nationals entering Thailand under normal route. However at this time, the COE website requires it under Phuket Sandbox. It does not make sense but if you are traveling soon, we recommend for you to just provide the COVID insurance.
Thank you.
I already register COE but couldn’t see sandbox hotel SHA++, it’s just shown ASQ and ALQ.
Dear Connie,
Good day.
As of today June 28th, the website has been updated already.
Thank you.

Hi Rex,
We live in Qatar and are traveling to Kenya on the 1st July for 10 days. We are looking to come to Phuket on the 18th July. Will this be possible or will we need to stay in Doha for 21 days before we travel to Phuket?
Many Thanks
Gary
Dear Gary,
Good day.
If you plan to return to Qatar from Kenya, you need to stay for at least 21 days in Qatar before you can travel to Thailand.
Thank you.
Hello.. I’m planing to travel to Phuket on the 16-20 of July from Romania. My issue is that from here there is no direct flights. I have 2 options with 1 stop in Istanbul New Airport (IST) or in DOHA. I will still be eligible for sandbox if is not direct flight?
Dear Liviu,
Good day.
Yes, you participate in Phuket Sandbox as long as you have a valid 60-day TR visa, COVID insurance, SHA+ Hotel, COVID RT-PCR test, flight itinerary and COE.
Thank you.
Hi, if I was travelling from the uk I generally transit through Dubai to connect with a flight to Phuket. Is this allowed.?
Dear Brenda,
Good day.
Yes, you can travel UK-Dubai-Phuket. If you need any help for the COE, please check this page:

Hi Rex ,
Asking the cost for PCR COVID-19 test
Regards
Abdalla
Dear Abdalla,
Good day.
The cost will range from 2500 THB to 4500 THB.
Thank you.
We already register COE for me and for my wife but for my son 4 years old and my daughter 10 years old. We canāt proceed because theyāre asking for vaccine details.
The kids is not allowed to take vaccine because of under aged. How we can proceed to complete the COE. They are travelling on 4th July 2021.
Dear Dina,
Good day.
Please contact the Thai Embassy or Consulate regarding this. There must be a problem with the system or you may be able to attached something to get this accepted.
Thank you.
Good day. Am l able to travel under the sandbox from Zimbabwe?
Dear Carol,
Good day.
At the moment it is not possible, However, you can still travel to Thailand as long as you enter Bangkok and you do the mandatory 14 days quarantine. You need to have a visa and COE also.
Thank you.
I want ask about when is next update list for eligible countries allow to travel to Thailand ?
Dear MJ,
The new list will be released after July 1, 2021.
Thank you.
Hi. I have a Brazilian passport, which is visa exempted up to 90 days in Thailand. I’m a Hong Kong resident at the moment, planning to go to Phuket Sandbox on late July. I’ll stay 14 days in Phuket, then go to Bangkok. I’m not really sure about the exact date I’m coming back to Hong Kong. Is it possible to apply for the COE with a 30-day health insurance and only one way tickets (HK – Phuket, and another from Phuket to BKK)? Or should I have return tickets? Thank you for you attention!
Dear Henry,
Good day.
If your COVID insurance is valid for 30 days only, please book an exit flight within 30 days also. If you don’t book an exit flight, you must buy an insurance for 90 days.
Thank you.
I have no direct flight from Laos to Phuket. Can i have a transit at BKK?
Dear Toei,
Good day.
At this time, for the COE application, domestic transit is not allowed.
Thank you.
Hi Rex,
Why do you recommend staying at least 7 nights in the same Sha+ hotel to start? There were some draft infographics that suggested this, but I don’t believe it was written into the official order.
Thanks,
Dear Ray,
Good day.
Because your first COVID test will be on arrival and the second test will be on Day 6 or 7. It would be easier to track down your location if the hotel stated in your arrival is the same as the Day 6 and 7.
Thank you.
I would like to know if travellers from India will.be allowed entry to Phuket ?
Dear Chandan,
The issuance of COE in India has been suspended therefore you cannot travel to Thailand at this time.
Thank you.
Hello Rex
I try to post message but it has not been answered. Do you know if the COVID testing during the sandbox for a fully vaccinated foreign tourist is free or who must pay for the testing?
Thanks!
Dear Rod,
Good day.
The testing is not free. You will be paying for it or you may ask if your hotel will be paying for it.
Thank you.
Hello. What would the protocol be for receiving my second vaccine dose 1 week prior to my trip to Thailand? Would I need to quarantine for 7 days and the other 7 allowed to roam free on the island?
Dear Amelia,
Good day.
If you are not fully vaccinated more than 14 days before the flight, then it is easy. You do not qualify for Phuket Sandbox until after 14 days from your second vaccination. You just need to wait for 1 more week and then you can apply for the COE.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
I’m going to stay in phuket for 17 days and then travel back to my Country. Arriving in 2 July..
My vecation plan is like this :6 nights in the first hotel, 5 nights in the second, 4 nights in the third one… All are SHA+
For this period staying in phuket
Is that booking okay? I heard that I have to book the first 7 nights in only one hotel sha+ and then can move to the second hotel… Is it not allowed more than 2 hotels?!!
Dear Matani,
Good day.
I would recommend booking 7 days for the first hotel (until you get your COVID test in that hotel) and the remaining 10 days can be spent in other SHA+ Hotels.
Thank you,
Hi Rex,
Writing from Canada! I understand that it is possible obtain a permit to extend a stay past the 45-day visa-exempt period. You mentioned that this can be done from the local immigration office. Were you referring to an immigration office in Thailand (during our 45-day stay), or to an immigration office in Canada (in my case).
Thanks for all the help,
Ray
Dear Ray,
Good day.
Yes, it is the immigration office in Thailand such as Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai. The normal extension is 30 days or COVID extension of 60 days.
Thank you.
Hi Rex
I will be in phuket for 14 days beginning July 15, then go to Samui for 21 days. I have 2 questions:
1. When I depart Samui, i need to travel to Shanghai (I have a working permit / visa etc there so i am permitted to enter China). I can only find a route that stops in BKK. I know the inbound flight must be direct from international but am i ok to transit BKK for outbound to china.
2. Is it possible to go sandbox to sandbox in less then 14 days. I may like to stay 1 week phuket, then 4 weeks in Samui. Assuming the Samui sandbox begins july 15 is this possible.
thanks a lot
Dear Mike,
Good day.
1. Since you are already staying in Thailand more than 14 days (Phuket and Samui= 36 days), you are permitted to exit Thailand through Bangkok.
2. No, you have to stay in Phuket for 14 days before you can go to Samui.
Thank you.
Hi Rex,
Am holding O Visa (Marriage), do I need a return air ticket for CoE application for Phuket Sandbox ?
As for my wife (Thai National), does she need to do pre-departure RT-PCR test and travel insurance ?
Thank you
Dear Paul,
Good day.
No, you do not need a return flight. You only need to have a COVID Insurance that covers the whole validity of your visa.
For your wife, she does not need an insurance but both of you needs to have RT-PCR COVID test within 72 hours before your flight to Thailand.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
My boyfriend live in USA and he want to come to Phuket when Phuket open. So I want to know when he can get the COE?
Thank you very much.
Dear Valentine,
Good day.
It will be open on June 28th, Monday. Please give yourself some time between application and your flight to Thailand.
Thank you.
I am Canadian. Purchased air ticket for travel to Phuket (depart July 2), fully vaccinated, SHA+ hotel booked. Health insurance purchased.
Problem is COE for Phuket Sandbox program still not OPEN for my application. Very anxious now as only one week away from my booked flight.
Please help
Dear Chris,
Good day.
It will be opened on June 28th.
Thank you.
I live on Koh Samui and left my passport. The German embassy is on Phuket. Do I have to be fully vaccinated to travel to Phuket or is an actual PCR test ok? Do I have to go into quarentine?
Thanks for any answer!
Dear Markus,
Good day.
If you are travelling from Samui to Phuket, you only need to show a negative COVID test result.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
(I’m asking for a friend)
I have a friend that flies to Thailand with 2 of her children (7 and 8) and she will get her second vacciantion on the 15th of July and she can fly on the 22nd of July – can she still come to pattaya?
* can she do shorter Quarantine – becaause she is already vaccinated?
please share the details what can work out in that case
THANK YOU!
Dear Marcus,
Good day.
First of all, there is no shorter quarantine for vaccinated tourists. There is a no quarantine program if you are fully vaccinated and you enter Thailand through Phuket and stay for 2 weeks within Phuket.
If she will arrive in Bangkok, she and her family must quarantine for 14 days. They can quarantine in Pattaya or in Bangkok for 2 weeks.
Thank you.
Good Morning – Your posts are the best information anywhere. My question on the flight is regarding the route. usa-japan (NRT)-Singapore-phucket. This is a single itinerary transit along the way. I am only concerned because i see japan is high risk and transit through NRT.
Can you please confirm if it will be ok? thanks so much. mike
Dear Mike,
Good day.
Yes, it is alright since you will only be transiting in Narita airport and Japan is not your port of origin. If you would ask me, I recommend for you to just transit in low or medium risk countries in case the government will change their guideline in the coming days.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
Does the Phuket Sandbox Scheme allow a flight from Hong Kong to Phuket with transit at Bangkok on the same day (self transit, ie collect bags, pass through immigration and security control at Bangkok and then check in for the connecting flight to Phuket separately)?
I am in Hong Kong and my work visa for my new job requires me to arrive in Thailand by early/mid-July. Therefore, I will stay in Thailand for much longer than 14 days and would be great if I can make use of the Sandbox Scheme. I am under time constraints because if the Sandbox doesnāt work for me, I will need to finalize all bookings and COE arrangements for Bangkok shortly. Thanks.
Best,
T
Dear T,
At the moment, flight with transit in Bangkok is not allowed. The plan to arrange special flights for Bangkok to Phuket to accommodate the transit passengers wasn’t finalised yet.If you cannot avoid Bangkok, perhaps you can quarantine in Bangkok for 2 weeks and later on travel to Phuket or around Thailand.
Thank you.
Hello if I travel to phuket, does my thai girlfriend from BKK need to make PCR tests if we want to stay with me in same hotel room?
Dear Mike,
Good day.
For a person from Bangkok to travel to Phuket, he or she must have a COVID 19 RT-PCR test before traveling to Phuket. As for sharing own room, please refer that question to your SHA+ Hotel reservation staff.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
How many times will they update the list of low-medium and high?
Because the Netherlands are still in the high zone but it isnāt bad anymore and everybody is all ready vaccinated.
Dear Frits,
Good day.
The list is updated by the Ministry of Public Health every 1st and 16th of the month.
Thank you.
Have we seen publication of the rules for the sandbox plan in the Thai Royal Gazette? I think it is unlikely that we will be able to get certificates of entry until we see that publication
Dear Crawford,
Good day.
Yes, you are correct. What people can do now is to submit the initial part of COE application. Once it is pre-approved, you have 15 days to upload the flight and hotel reservation. I believe in the next 15 days, the COE website will be updated to include the SHA+ Hotels in Phuket.
Thank you.
I am an Australian citizen but I am a resident of the United Arab Emirates, which is where I plan to depart from. I was recently in Italy and have not been in the UAE for 21 days since. Do I need to have been in the country for 21 days even if I am a resident of the UAE or does this 21 day requirement only apply to tourists?
Dear Danny,
Good day.
Both Italy and the UAE are medium risk countries, therefore it is alright. The important point here is that, you have not been in a high risk country in the past 3 weeks prior to your departure for Phuket.
Thank you.
Good day, Rex!
Will it be possible to extend the visa while in Thailand if the entry will be according to the Phuket sandbox program?
Dear Maria,
Good day.
If you are able to enter Thailand under Visa Exemption of 45 days, yes, you can extend this permit to stay for another 30 days at your local immigration office or you can also extend it for additional 60 days as COVID extension.
Thank you.
Dear Rex
Do you when we can apply COE for Phuket Sandbox? Thank you & best regards
Dear Worawan,
Good day.
Hopefully the COE website will be updated this weekend so that application for COE Phuket Sandbox can start Monday next week.
Thank you.
Do i have to choice all SHA+ hotel where i plan to stay before arriving in Phuket or will i it be possible to move in another SHA+ after check-in in my COE quarantine hotel ?
Dear Miard,
Good day.
If your return flight is less than 14 days, yes, you must book the SHA+ hotel based on the number of days you are in Phuket. If your return flight is after 15 or 30 or 45 days, you must book at least 14 days Phuket SHA+ hotels to get approval for your COE.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
My family bought a Lufthansas ticket London->Frankfurt->Bangkok->Phuket on Jun 30th, arriving July 1st.
Any expectation when they will update about transiting via Bangkok to Phuket?
Thanks
Dear Raul,
Good day.
The plan to accommodate those with transit flight in Bangkok has not been finalized. We have to wait for a couple of days for that information. Right now, the focus is for those arriving directly to Phuket from abroad.
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
We have just had our 1st dose of AZ in Bangkok and will travel to US in August. We are unable to complete the 2nd dose of AZ in Thailand before we travel. If we have our 2nd shot in US (Pfizer or Moderna) before returning to Phuket in September. Are we still qualified to participate this Phuket sandbox? Can we consider as fully vaccinated?
Thank you.
Dear Seline,
Good day.
According to the current guideline, full vaccination means you have received 2 doses of the same vaccine (except for the vaccine with one full dose). However, there are cases of mixed vaccines right now and at the moment the Thailand MOPH has not approved this idea to be included in the initial guideline of Phuket SandBox. Perhaps in August or September, mixed vaccines may be allowed to participate in Phuket Sandbox.
Thank you.
I’m assuming canada falls in medium risk no quarantine?
Dear Taylor,
Good day.
Yes, Canada is under medium risk countries. Please make sure that you are in Canada for at least 21 days by the time you apply for your COE at the Thai Embassy in Ottawa or consulate in Vancouver. To buy an insurance for your COE, please check here: https://www.thaiembassy.com/travel-to-thailand/axa-covid-19-insurance-for-foreigners
Thank you.
Dear Rex,
I am from Germany and completly vaccinated. Do I need a nonstop flight to Phuket or is a flight with transit in Bangkok possible too?
Thank you and Kind regards,
Pia
Dear Pia,
Good day.
You can book flight Germany-Qatar-Phuket or Germany-UAE-Phuket or Germany-Singapore-Phuket.
Thank you.
Thank you for your reply. My niece is studying in Phuket and her parents are in Pakistan..her school has already closed for the summer and she is staying with a friend..
If she returns to Pakistan she will not be able to return to Thailand before her next semester due to the covid regulations. Also she is only 16 so even if she is allowed to return they will require her to quarantine which obviously she cannot do alone.Ā
Is there no special permission her parents could obtain to travel to Phuket from Pakistan ?Ā
Kind regardsĀ
SadiaĀ
Dear Sadia,
That is very unfortunately. I regret to inform you that we do not have any information to solve this problem. Please contact the Thai Embassy in Pakistan for more information.
Thank you.
Hi Rex – I am fully vacinated and in US for past 30 days. I will travel to france July 3 and plan to fly to phuket direct on july 12. both are medium risk, but i will be in france less then 21 days. Can i do that? thanks Mike
Dear Mike,
Good day.
US and France are medium risk countries, therefore you have been in altogether for 21 days in these countries. You can apply for the COE in France. The only issue that I see; the Thai Embassy in Paris might ask you for your French visa when you apply for the COE or proof of residence in France. Or maybe they will not ask for it.
Thank you.
Hi Rex – thanks for all the great information on the site.
Can the exit flight be on a separate ticket with a different airline than the inbound to phuket. thanks
Dear Mike,
Good day.
Yes, your exit flight can be a different airline and it can be booked separately but you need both entry and exit flights when applying for the COE because it will be the basis of your COVID insurance validity also.
Thank you.
Hi!
I will be arriving in Phuket on nov 2nd, leaving Norway on Monday Nov 1st.
I will be fully vaccinated.
As far as i know, i canāt be tested during the weekend in Norway where I live, so I can only be tested on the Friday (29th October), which is over 72 hours before departure.
How fresh must the PCR test be before entering Phuket?
Dear Johan,
Good day.
We recommend for you to book a flight that departs Norway in the middle or end of the week so that the clinics are open 2 to 3 days before your flight.
Thank you.
Dear Sir/Madam
My boss will arr at Suwannabhume airport on 13 Aug. Can he catch the flight to Phuket same day and same airport?
Dear Worawan,
Good day.
There has been plans to provide Bangkok to Phuket flight for those who are transiting in Bangkok, but right now, those designated flights have not been approved just yet.
Thank you.
Good evening Mr. Rex,
I am Filipino citizen and I am currently residing in the United Arab Emirates, and planning to travel to phuket on the 2nd of July for 2 weeks. I did apply for the COE, but unfortunately, I got rejected. As per the guidelines, I have to attached those necessary docs such as passport, vaccinated cert. And once it gets approve then we can proceed to ticket, ASQ and insurance attachments.
Could you please tell me what is the the possible things to doā¦ Or it is something to do with the sandbox phuket as it is not yet officially confirmed?
Highly appreciated your response.
Thanks,
Kristhin
Dear Kristhin,
Good day.
It has been rejected because the current COE application portal has been designed for COE application with quarantine requirements. The COE application for Phuket Sandbox is not open yet. I recommend for you to call the consulate or embassy next week.
Thank you.

Dear Jiraporn,
Good day.
Bahrain is listed as high risk country therefore it is not possible to get COE for Phuket Sandbox from Bahrain.
Thank you.
Hi Rex,
Im from the Philippines and this article stated that the Philippines is a high risk country. Even if Im fully vaccinated, this would mean that I would need to quarantine for 14days before I can transfer to a SHA accredited resort in Phuket. Is this correct?
Thanks
Dear Rio,
Good day.
Yes, that is correct. However the combined list of MOPH and TAT has not been published. Only the list from MOPH was published last June 16th.
There may be a new list to be published before July 1.
Thank you.
Hello,
I have booked flights and a hotel and will be travelling from the UAE. Do I require a VISA, or is this available on arrival? I have enquired regarding a VISA at the local embassy and have been told I need 6 months on my emirates ID, and British passport. Can you explain why this is? If thhis is the case I will have to cancel my entire booking due to my EID not having 6 months validity, even though I have a valid passport and all the vaccine shots. Very frustrating and wasn’t a clear requirement when I made the booking.
Dear Adam,
Good day.
You can apply for the COE or Certificate of Entry under Visa Exemption category, therefore, there is no need to apply for the visa. You automatically get 45 days visa exemption. To get the COE, I do not think there is a requirement for 6 months validity of passport.
Thank you.
Hello. We are moving to Bangkok in August to work in an international school. We have initial visas for 3 months (B for adults, O for our children). Will we be able to use the sandbox if we fly to Phuket from the UK? And then fly to Bangkok afterwards to move there? Thanks
Dear Oli,
Good day.
Yes, according to the draft that was approved today, June 22, fully vaccinated Thai nationals and non-Thai nationals who are moving back and moving to Thailand can avail the Phuket Sandbox program as long as you can get the COE issued by the Thai Embassy in their current location.
Thank you.
Transit of 3 hours through Qatar is allowed under Phuket Sandbox ? UK is still medium risk or there is a new list?
Dear Carmen,
Good day.
Yes, you can transit through Doha. UK and Qatar both medium and low risk countries. The new list will be out July 1. The current list was dated June 16th.
Thank you.
I would like to know if travellers from Pakistan will.be allowed entry to Phuket ?
Dear Sadia,
Good day.
Pakistan is a high risk country and the Thai Embassy in Pakistan does not issue COE at this time, so you are not qualified for the Phuket Sandbox.
Thank you.
Hi,
My name is Lou, from the Philippines. I will be traveling to Thailand on July 1st, now I found this news article that says Philippines is one of the high risk country and will be banned from entering Phuket or any parts of Thailand starting July 1st, I honestly don’t know what to do.
Thank you so much.
Dear Lou,
Good day.
No, you are not banned. You can still travel to Phuket. You can apply for the COE but you must stay in a mandatory hotel quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
Thank you.
I am foreigner who lives in Phuket.
I am on the plan to get first jab of AstraZeneca vaccine and than after 3 months another dose. Meanwhile in between 2 doses can I go out of country and get in without doing quarantine?
Dear Milan,
The one dose AstraZeneca is not applicable for traveler from abroad to Phuket. If that is the case, you must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
Thank you.
Hi Rex , if your travel takes you through a high risk country are you allowed to enter phucket , like a flight transit through Istanbul ? Also does the 21 days prior to departure gave to be spent in 1 medium risk country or can it have been spent 2 medium risk countries , like 2 weeks in ireland and 2 week in spain . Thanks.
Dear Cathal,
Does Turkish Airline travel to Phuket? Your COE will state the Airline and Flight Number, so as long as it is there in the COE, then you can transit in Turkey. But I do not think Turkish Airlines flies from Istanbul to Phuket in July or August.
When you apply for the COE, you must be located in a medium or low risk country and your departure flight stated in that COE is also in that country. Please call the Thai Embassy in Spain if you can get the COE prior to coming to Phuket.
Thank you.
Hello, can belgian people go to phuket in the sandbox?
Dear Gerry,
Good day.
Yes, the Thai Embassy in Belgium will be able to issue a certificate of entry or COE under the Phuket Sandbox program. At the moment, the application is still closed and we expect that it may be open in a few days.
Thank you.
Will we have to fly direct to Phuket from UK or could the flight transit in another country? For example Qatar. There are many flights from London with 1 stop! Thanks
Dear Harry,
Yes, you can transit in UAE, Qatar, Hong Kong or Singapore.
Thank you.
Hello
Will tourists from Pakistan be allowed to travel to Phuket if fully vaccinated from 1st July ? . I haven’t been able to find an updated list on the Internet. I did read India is still banned but no mention of Pakistan.
Thanks
Dear Sadia,
Good day.
The issuance of COE for non-Thai nationals who are travelling from Pakistan to Thailand has been suspended until further notice, therefore you are not qualified for the Phuket Sandbox.
Thank you.
Hello,
I live in Thailand for 4 years. (No tourist visa)
I go to Europe next week.
Can I us the sandbox program to come back to Thailand?!
I will be fully vaccinated.
Thanks
Dear Benjamin,
Good day.
Yes, according to the draft that was approved today, June 22, fully vaccinated Thai nationals and non-Thai nationals who are returning to Thailand can avail the Phuket Sandbox program as long as you can get the COE issued by the Thai Embassy in their current location. You must have been staying in that low risk or medium country country/countries for the past 21 days prior to COE application.
Thank you.
Hi,
Thank you for a wonderful job. Just to make sure
1 I need to be fully vaccinated 14 days before arriving to Phuket via direct flight
2 I need to have a negative PCR test 72 hours before traveling to Phuket
3 I need to do a PCR test upon arrival in Phuket
4 I need to wait for the test in an SHA+ hotel which might cost 3k-4K baht
5 if the result is negative I still need to stay in that Hotel
6 after 14 days in the Hotel I can move freely in Phuket or anywhere in Thailand
Is that it or did I miss anything?
Thank you
Dear Ali,
Good day.
On number 5, you can stay in that hotel (not limited to your room) and you are able to travel around Phuket even starting on Day 1. You can freely travel around Phuket.
On number 6, you can move to other provinces such as Bangkok.
Thank you.
is it confirmed that you must fly directly to Phuket from abroad?
Dear Emilio,
Good day.
As of today, yes. You must be traveling to Phuket with possible transit in Dubai, Doha, Hong Kong or Singapore.
Thank you.
Hi, is it possible to get a one way ticket to Phuket Sandbox? Or does it have to be a return ticket?
Dear Tina,
Good day.
To avail the Phuket Sandbox, you need to apply for a COE. If you are applying for a COE under Visa Exemption, you need to have a return flight or exit flight.
Thank you.
I live in Bangkok and want to travel to the UK with my family and then take advantage of the Phuket sandbox before returning to Bangkok. The flight we wish to book goes via BKK to Phuket. Is this okay?
Dear Stephen,
Good day.
Just make sure that you are in the UK for at least 21 days, fully vaccinated for at least 14 days before you apply for the COE to return to Phuket. You must also book a flight that is UK-UAE-Phuket, UK-Qatar-Phuket, UK-Hong Kong-Phuket flights, you cannot book a UK-BKK-Phuket flight. If you book a UK-BKK-Phuket flight, you must quarantine in Bangkok for 14 days before you can fly to Phuket.
Thank you.
Hi Rex.
I am planning on traveling to Phuket from the US through the Middle East in early July. I have made prepaid reservations at 2 SHA+ plus hotels in Phuket for my stay, One for three days and the other for four days. I have read on other websites that swapping of SHA+ hotels is OK, but that you need to stay in one hotel for at least seven days. Is that correct? Also, do you have any idea when the government will allow for issuance of a COE based on SHA+ hotels. As of today, the government is still requiring quarantine hotels. Thanks.
Dear Stuart,
Good day.
You can move between SHA+ hotels in Phuket for the duration of stay. If you have plans to travel to other parts of Thailand (outside Phuket), you must have a total of 14 nights before you can leave Phuket. The updated COE application for Phuket Sandbox will become available next week.
Thank you.
Hi there,
Would foreigners (vaccinated) holding a work permit and traveling back from business trip qualified for the Phuket Sandbox campaign?
thank you
Dear Sally,
Good day.
Yes, both returning Thai nationals and returning residents of Thailand who are fully vaccinated and travelling from low and medium risk countries are eligible to apply for COE under Phuket Sandbox. Please make sure that you have COVID insurance that covers the rest of your visa validity.
Thank you.
Can Canadians travel to phuket under the phuket sandbox plan??
Dear Taylor,
Good day.
Yes, travelers or passengers from Canada may participate on the Phuket Sandbox plan. You are able to apply for the COE under visa exemption or if you currently hold a visa, you can use that also.
Thank you.
Hello. We are 2 fully vaccinated adults who will travel from the U.K. to Phuket transiting through KLIA (5 hours between flights but will not be leaving the airport). Is this route allowed for entry to Phuket? Additionally we have 3 children aged 14, 12 and 7 who are obviously not vaccinated so can they travel if taking a PCR prior to departure and on arrival?
Dear Jenny,
Good day.
If you would ask me, I recommend for you to avoid transiting in a high risk country before arriving in Phuket. There are other options like Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha.
Thank you.
Hi Rex,
I’m planning a trip to Phuket in November from US (flying SFO>SIN>HKT) and I have a couple of questions:
1. Do fully vaccinated travelers need to get a PCR test 72 hours before departure?
2. Will restaurants/bars/other attractions be open?
3. Will standard health insurance cover the entrance requirement?
Thank you very much!
Mike
Dear Mike,
Good day.
Please see my answers below:
1. Yes, you need to do an RT-PCR COVID 19 test within 72 hours before your flight SFO-SIN.
2. Yes, most places in Phuket are open except to those places that are banned by the national government. We recommend for you to visit places in phuket with SHA+ accreditation.
3. For the Insurance that is 100% acceptable for the COE application, please check this page:
https://www.thaiembassy.com/travel-to-thailand/axa-covid-19-insurance-for-foreigners
Thank you.
How do you by pass or complete the hotel portion of the COE application if you are partaking in the Phuket Sandbox program which states no quarantine hotels?
Thanks
Dear Nieeban,
Good day.
You cannot bypass the hotel portion of the COE application. Whether it is ASQ Hotel for quarantine or the SHA+ Hotel for Phuket Sandbox, you must provide it because it will be stated in your COE.
Thank you.
