  1. I have a Ukrainian passport. I have business in Germany for a few days and then want to travel to Thailand and enter Phuket for the sandbox programme. Since I fly from Germany do I apply for CoE in Germany?

    1. Dear Steve,
      Good day.
You need to apply for the COE at the Thai Embassy in Germany. You only need to have stayed in Germany for 21 days in order for you to qualify for the Phuket Sandbox.
      Thank you.

  2. Hello,

What will happen if I have received a COE and before departure to Thailand, my country is not on the list of allowed countries anymore?

    1. Dear OG,
That is the reason why you cannot apply for the COE under Phuket Sandbox earlier than 30 days before your flight because of that. As long as you have been issued a COE, you can still use it unless the flight was cancelled due to travel ban from your country. If your country is removed from the list, you will be downgraded to stay in a quarantine hotel when you arrive at the Phuket airport.
      Thank you.

  3. Hello, Iā€™m hoping to visit in November coming from the United States but will be visiting the Maldives first for 7 days. I donā€™t see Maldives on the list. Does that mean we must quarantine?

    1. Dear Melissa,
Yes, that is correct. You need to quarantine when you enter Thailand because the Thai Embassy in Sri Lanka (for Maldives) cannot issue the Phuket Sandbox COE.
      Thank you.

  4. Can I travel from Russia via Dubai or Abu Dhabi?
I have a vaccination here in Russia with Sputnik V. Is it accepted in Phuket?

    1. Dear Fedor,
      Good day.
Yes, you are eligible to apply for the COE under Phuket Sandbox.
      Thank you.

  5. I am working in United Nation Mission in Afghanistan but original Bhutanese citizen from Bhutan. I want to travel Phuket vie Dubai for 10 Days holiday in Phuket. Will be eligible for COE?

    1. Dear Peldon,
      Good day.
The Thai Consulate in Dubai will require for you to have stayed in the UAE for 21 days before you can be issued a COE for Phuket Sandbox. Also, the other issue is that you need a TR visa aside from the COE.
      Thank you.

  6. Hi
How many RT-PCR test do we need to do during 14 days holiday stay in Phuket ?
Also, do the children ages of 6 need to do the RT-PCR test after entering to Phuket?

    Thanks
    Arunsri

    1. Dear Arunsri,
You need COVID tests during the following: Day 1, Day 6, Day 13.
      Thank you.

  7. Hi Rex – can you give some clarity on the following: US Passport Holder & Work Permit Holder presently outside of Thailand but due to return. Is the “eligibility” for a) Sandbox (list of countries) as well as b) doing ASQ determined by Passport or Country of Flight Origin? For example, I was planning to return from Turkey but may have a work trip that would have me returning from Ukraine (but via Doha, transit only)? Is eligibility based on US passport, coming from Turkey, or coming from Ukraine? Thanks!

    1. Dear James,
      Good day.
It is determine by the country where you are originating. It is not by nationality. If you are in the country listed in the Phuket Sandbox, even if you are not a citizen of that country, you will be able to apply for the COE as long as you have the visa or visa exemption to enter Thailand. If you are departing from Turkey, you are eligible to get a COE for both ASQ and Phuket Sandbox. If you are departing from Ukraine, you can only apply for COE using ASQ.
      Thank you.

  8. Hi Rex,
I am a Indian national and presently in Doha, Qatar for 25 days. I hold a valid Thai Work Permit and Visa. Can I apply for Phuket Sandbox at Royal Thai Embassy in Doha? Will my application be accepted?

    1. Dear Samir,
      Good day.
Technically, you can apply since you are a permitted person to enter Thailand and Qatar is a listed country for Phuket Sandbox. However, the local Thai Embassy in Qatar may require for you to provide a Qatar ID card or maybe they can only issue COE if you are a citizen or resident in that country. I recommend for you to call them first.
      Thank you.

  9. Dear Official,

Is there a list of registered / official Phuket clinics that provide the COVID tests within 72 hours before travellers returning to their home countries? Especially if travellers stay more than 14 days in Phuket after all the mandatory COVID tests arranged with the COE. Thanks.

    1. Dear Elsa,
      Good day.
There are 5 swab centers in Phuket operated by Bangkok Hospital Phuket. There is one in Jungcelon in Patong. You can call 093-574-0683.
      Thank you.

    1. Dear Christian,
      Good day.
At this time, the flights operating to Phuket are: THAI, Emirates, Qatar, Eithad, El Al and Singapore Airlines. Also, the Thai Embassy in India does not issue COE for Phuket Sandbox.
      Thank you.

  10. Dear official,

If I would like to join this program and my mom who live in bangkok can join me in hotel ? And if yes this mean she need to stay 14 nights with me ?

    Thank you so much

    1. Dear Natthanan,
      Good day.
Technically your mother can go to Phuket as long as she has COVID test before going to Phuket. However, some hotels will only accept vaccinated guests. I recommend for you to ask directly the SHA+ Hotel in Phuket where you are planning to stay.
      Thank you.

    1. Dear Prim,
No. It must be a direct flight to Phuket. If you stop in Bangkok, you need to quarantine for 14 nights.
      Thank you.

  11. Hi , can we use flights from Manchester to Phuket via etihad or emirates or does it have to be direct

  12. Hi
    Question
I will arrive from London, Can I stay 7 days in SHA plus hotel then leave Phuket by yacht to Philippines on day 8 (or thereabouts)

  13. Hello Rex, if I stop over instead of a direct flight in any of the countries listed above, that is ok to enter the sandbox scheme? Eg London – UAE – Phuket?

  14. I arrive in Phuket on Sunday 25th July for 14 nights, does this mean I can leave on the morning of 8th August to travel elsewhere all being well, thanks.

  15. Thanks for your answer. One more question, please:
    1) After 14 day, is possibile to go to Bangkok and then come back to Phuket?
    2) is it a problem to arrive in phuket and leave from Bangkok?

    1. Dear Angelo,
      1. Yes you can travel to Bangkok after you completed 14 nights and Phuket and yes, it is possible for you to travel from Bangkok to Phuket.
      2. It is not a problem if you enter Thailand through Phuket and you exit Thailand through Bangkok (at least after 15 days).
      Thank you.

  16. Hi Rex,

When completing my COE is asks for the country i am flying from, I am flying from Dublin but transit it in UAE, Will i put down Dublin or UAE?
    Thanks,

  17. Dear Rex

I am a bit confused about the number of nights stay – is it 15 or 14 nights?
If I land in Phuket on Friday 23rd July, when can I take a domestic flight to Bangkok?

Also, do you know what happens if someone on my flight test positive – what will happen to me when I land in Phuket?

Is it the same procedure if I land in Bangkok and someone on my flight test postive?

    1. Dear Marcus,
      Good day.
It is 14 nights as minimum requirement. If the person in your flight tested positive on the test upon arrival, only the people who has close contact with that person will be asked to be quarantined and not the whole flight.
      Thank you.

  18. To Whom It May Concern,
I have applied for the Phuket Sandbox COE. I will be staying in Thailand for 30 days and plan to leave Phuket after my 14 nights stay as required. I am confused about the travel requirements. Here is what my plan is: I will travel from my destination to Phuket. After my required stay in Phuket I want to fly to Bangkok in order to continue my travels within the country by car. Will I be able to fly domestic out of Phuket to BKK? After my 30 days is up can I fly out of Bangkok back to my destination? My final COE approval is based on my travel plans and this is why I am asking these questions. Thank you in advance and have a great day!

    1. I would like to fly to phucket and stay in different air bnbs for my 21 day stay. Is this acceptable or do I have to stay in the specific hotels? Thank you for your help

  19. Is it absolutely a requirement to book a 14-night stay even if you plan on just staying for say 7 days? Will they look for a 14-night Proof of Payment?

    1. Dear Poyen,
The 14-night requirement is only applicable if you have plan to travel to other provinces. If you only want to stay for a couple of days in Phuket and fly out of Phuket to Dubai or Singapore, then you can stay less than 14 nights.
      Thank you.

  20. We have a British Airways package holiday booked for 8th October from UK via Singapore staying at The Village, Coconut Island. I have no idea if this holiday will go ahead as it was booked before Sandbox was confirmed and therefore was not booked following Sandbox conditions.
Also I can’t see this hotel on the list of Sandbox hotels even though they say they are on on their website. Other than just wait, any thoughts on what to do?

    1. Dear Nancy,
      Good day.
I recommend for you to check with the Hotel if they can issued SHABA Certificate that you can use for your COE application. If the trip is in October, you ca apply for the COE, after September 10 only.
      Thank you.

  21. I’m in the Phuket sandbox now with a 45 day visa on entry. In the past when they had 30 day visa on entry I could extend that an additional 30 days for 1900 baht at an immigration office. Are extensions still available?

    1. Dear Dan,
      Good day.
Yes, you can extend it for 30 days normal extension or you can extend it for 60 days COVID extension.
      Thank you.

    1. Dear Adam,
      Good day.
Whether you have vaccination or not, it does not matter because you will be quarantine for 14 nights in an ASQ Hotel, when you arrive in Bangkok from abroad.
      Thank you.

  22. Hello,
I would like to buy a flight to Phuket by Ethiad airlines : Rome-Abu Dhabi-Phuket. Is it ok for Phuket Sandbox? I can’t find direct flight from Rome to Phuket.
    Thanks for your answer.
    Angelo

  23. Hi. I would like to book a holiday in Phuket in December. Do I need to do the Certificate of Entry now and pay for the Covid tests in advance or do I wait until closer to the time? I thought I read that Sand Box is due to finish in October?

    1. Dear Nsomi,
You can only apply for the Phuket Sandbox COE, within 30 days before your flight.
      Thank you.

  24. Hi,

I plan to travel from the UK on 24 July (arrive 25 July to Phuket) and leave in 21 days to Hong Kong. I hold a full British passport (UK).

    For the COE form:
I’m not sure on the answer to this yes/no?
Are you entering Thailand through the Sandbox Programme?

    Also, do I qualify for:
    Medium Term Visitor
    – Tourist (visa exemption scheme/
    bilateral agreement)4

Do I need to purchase insurance before I apply for the COE?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    1. Dear Matt,
      Good day.
You can answer YES if you are fully vaccinated and if you do not want to do a quarantine.
You can choose number 11 Visa Exemption (Medium Term Visitor)
Yes, you need a COVID insurance for 30 days if your travel in Phuket or Thailand is 21 days. You can purchase an insurance here:
      https://www.siam-legal.com/axa-insurance
      Thank you.

  25. My flight lands in Bangkok from London and then it is a direct transfer (not leaving the airport) to Phuket. Is this allowed or will I need to try and change flights?

    1. Dear Aaron,
Unfortunately it is not allowed for Phuket Sandbox. There is a direct Thai Airways flight from London to Phuket or London-Dubai-Phuket, London-Doha-Phuket.
      Thank you.

  26. Hi, thanks a lot for the detailed info.
I’m really wondering about the insurance requirements. I read somewhere that it should cover the length of the visa. My visa is a Non-immigrant that will expire in about one year. Do i need to subscribe an insurance for one year or is there any work around? It’s really expensive and yet useless… thanks

    1. Dear Jon,
Yes, you can buy an insurance valid for a year if you have a 10 or 11 months remainder in your visa. Health insurances are not useless since you won’t know when will you need it especially during this pandemic.
      Good day.

  27. Hello

I have a Chinese work visa. Would I be able to fly from the UK to Phuket, spend a week there and then fly to Beijing?

    Thank you for your help

  28. Hi

I am wondering if I will be able to stay with my friend traveling from France to sandbox in the same hotel as he will also be fully vaccinated. I will come from Bangkok and meeting him in Phuket.

    1. Dear Sarah,
      Good day.
Yes, you can definitely stay with your friend as long as you meet the entry requirements of Phuket such as undergoing an RT-PCR COVID test before traveling to Phuket. Also, Bangkok may be in lockdown so travel outside Bangkok may be restricted soon.
      Thank you,

  29. Hello Rex,
I am currently in a SHA plus hotel. After 14 days I wanted to travel on to Bangkok. As far as I know, in order to continue my journey I have to be able to prove that I spent 14 nights in a SHA plus hotel. The hotel only wants to issue me this certificate for a fee of 700 baht. Is that correct?

    1. Dear Tom,
      Good day.
In order to travel out of Phuket, you need your latest COVID test result and a certificate from the hotel. I assume it is free of charge because in Bangkok, ASQ Hotels issue this type letter for free. I am not sure if this is another way to scam tourists in Phuket. Please ask your hotel for clarification.
      Thank you.

  30. Hello there!
We are considering flying to Phuket at the end of July.

    1. Where can we apply for the sandbox project? I once found the website where we have to upload all of our documents but cannot find it anymore.

    2. Our son will turn one year old on July 22nd. Does he need to provide a negative pcr test result 72 hours before the flight? And would he need to make the three pcr tests while staying in phuket? I read that only children above the age of 6 need to provide a negative pcr test result.

    Greetings from Germany

    1. Dear Louis,
Yes, you need to have the final dose at least 14 days before you travel to Thailand and you must have it also before you can apply for the COE.
      Thank you.

  31. 1. Has the visa-free travel to Thailand been extended to 3 months instead (1 month before)?

    2. Is it necessary to have a return flight booked in order to enter Thailand?

    3. I am fully vaccinated and am aware that there’s still a need to get a COVID test 72 hours prior to departure, however, is it necessary to test upon landing in Phuket? If so, where and how?Ā

    4. Do we have to book the same hotel for all 14 days in Phuket before we apply for the COE?Ā Ā

    1. Dear Joe,
Good day. Please see my answers below:
      1. The Visa Exemption is now valid for 45 days. The Visa Exemption is one of the permitted categories to apply for the Phuket Sandbox. But you need to check if your country of departure is under the eligible list.
      2. For the approval of your COE, yes, you need to show an exit flight within 45 days. Your COVID insurance must also cover the duration of your stay.
      3. Yes, there will be tests on Day 1, Day 6 and Day 13 if you are staying for the full 14 nights in Phuket. It can be arranged by your hotel.
      4. Yes, you need the SHABA certificate from your hotel in order to apply for the COE. You must stay in one SHA+ Hotel for 7 nights before you can move to another SHA+ hotel or hotels for another 7 nights before you can travel out of Phuket or stay in private home. You also have to pay in advance the RT-PCR tests since you need the receipt when you apply for the COE.
If you need assistance for the COE, please check this page:
      https://www.siam-legal.com/other-services/certificate-of-entry-thailand.php
      Thank you.

    2. Hi Rex,
I have an annual travel health insurance (insurance group ā€žHanseMerkurā€œ) and I received an English written confirmation as required for Phuket Sandbox Project (explicetly mentioned including COVID-19 / 100.00 US-Dollar / for 56 days of staying abroad).
Is this ok for traveling to Phuket instead of the AXA-product? Iā€˜d like to check this in advance. Thank You for Your help.
      Regards
      Hans

  32. Good evening!
    I have 2 questions:
    – is it true that my 7month old daughter need a test at the arrival in Phuket? And what kind of test is it? (Nasal or pharyngeal?)
    – and if one of my 2 children ( 6years, and the other 7 month- I m still breast feeding) or myself is positive, and has to go to the hospital for quarantine, could I come with them?
    Thank you !

    1. Dear Kirsten,
      Good day.
Yes, you are correct. Children below 18 years will be required to have COVID tests. With so many tests and with the current COVID situation in Thailand, worse than the past months, is it really mandatory for you and your children to travel?
      Thank you.

  33. Dear Rex,
I already got my pre- approval but when it comes to paying the hotel for the COVID19- tests they (the hotel) say that I need to stay at least for 14 days. Is that so?! I only want to stay in this one hotel for 10 days and then go back home to Germany.
As time is running I hope for a quick answer, sorry.
    Best wishes
    Rainer

    1. Dear Rainer,
The payment for the PCR test will depend on how many days you will stay in Phuket. If you stay for 3 days, you only need to pay for 1 COVID test which is the test on arrival. if you stay for 1 week, you need to pay for 2 COVID tests and so son.
      Thank you.

  34. Is there a list of Covid Insurance accepted? Are only Thai companies accepted? It seems that AXA is preferred. Can the Thai General Insurance Association be used as well?

    1. Dear Loren,
We highly recommend AXA as we posted on this page since we never had a problem when it comes to issuance of COE for tourists.
      Thank you.

    1. Dear Gemma,
Yes, you also need to pay for their tests. You can ask your hotel to arrange that for you so that you can use the receipt when you apply for the COE.
      Thank you.

  35. Hi. We are looking at travelling from UAE and have A 2 year old and 6 year old. Will they be required to have a PCR test (nose) on arrival and during their stay?

    1. Dear Lydia,
      Good day.
Yes, they will have to do the mandatory RT PCR tests same as the adults.
      Thank you.

  36. I AM AN INDIAN, MAY I GET ‘COE’ VACCINATED COVISHIELD 2 DOSES, BOOKED FLIGHT FOR PHUKET 17 AUGUST TO 26 AUGUST. HOW MUCH I HAVE TO PAY FOR COVID TEST & TO WHOM & TO WHERE

    1. Dear Jai,
The issuance of the COE in India has been suspended until further notice. Please call the Thai Embassy in Delhi if there has been updates on this.
      Thank you.

  37. Hi Rex

if I land in Bangkok I understood I need to do 14 days and 15 nights quarintine…

but if I use Pukhet sandbox – would that be only 14 nights – and how many days?

so if I land in Pukhet on July 23rd when can I take a flight from Pukhet to Bangkok?

    Thank you

    1. Dear Marcus,
It will be 14 nights and you can check out on the 15th day (depending what time you arrived on Day 1). if you arrive before 6pm, your Day 1 is that day. if you arrive at night, your Day 1 is the next day.
      Thank you.

  38. Hello Rex,
I know I have to do a PCR test in my country 72 hours before I leave to Phuket and also a PCR test in Thailand when I return from Thailand to Germany but

    1. How many PCR tests are mandatory from arrival in Phuket until I leave after 14 days to another province?

    2. What will be the price for such a test

    Thanks for your explanation
    Klaus

    1. Dear Klaus,
      Good day.
It will be 3 tests: Day 1, Day 6 and Day 13. The price is around 2800 THB per test. You may ask your SHA+ Hotel to arranged it or help you arrange it.
      Thank you.

    1. Dear Shan,
Yes. Because the COE is only valid on the flight date and numbers stated during the application. Any change of flight, it means you need to change your COE unless it is a cancelled flight or delayed flight caused by the airline.
      Thank you.

  39. I am a UAE resident with Indian passport, do I need to apply visa prior to travel or can I get visa on arrival?

    1. Dear Arsh,
      Good day.
The visa on arrival for Indians has been suspended therefore you need to apply first for the TR visa before you can apply for the COE. You can apply for the COE under Phuket Sandbox if you have stayed in the UAE for the last 21 days before your flight to Phuket.
      Thank you.

  40. We plan to stay in Phuket (Sandbox program) for 14 days. How many PCR tests should we do during our stay? Do children (age 9 and 11) also need to do these PCR tests?

    1. Dear Katja,
      Good day.
There will be three tests: Day 1, Day 6-7 and Day 13-14.
Parents and children will be tested.
      Thank you.

  41. Hello, Do children in Phuket then also have to take the 3 mandatory (expensive!) PCR tests? With 4 children aged 1 – 9 years, this will then be an additional expensive fun. Thanks for an answer!
    Best Regards Anja

    1. Dear Anja,
Yes, the children will be tested together with the parents.
      Thank you.

  42. Hi do we need to book flights before we apply for the COE as our application got rejected because we did not. The flights are not refundable so the risk was too high.

    1. Dear Shanice,
Yes, you need to book the flight in order for the embassy to determine if you qualified for the COE or if you need an additional visa or not. You can give yourself time allowance of 1 to 2 weeks for the COE application alone.
      Thank you.

  43. Can unvaccinated 13 year old travel to Phuket on their own from UK where they will be met by their parent who will travel from Bangkok?

    1. Dear Kat,
      Good day.
The child can travel alone and be quarantined for 14 days in a quarantine room and no visitors allowed.
      Thank you.

  44. I hold a Philippine passport coming from Dubai. Do I still need to apply for a VISA for entry to Thailand after obtaining a COE?

    1. Dear MG,
      Good day.
No, you do not need a visa if you are coming to Thailand under visa exemption. You can either enter through Bangkok with quarantine or Phuket without quarantine.
      Thank you.

  45. Hello, is it ok if I have been in more than one of the approved countries in the 21 days before travelling to Thailand? For example, if I live in the United Arab Emirates, go to Turkey for one week, return to UAE then after one day travel to Phuket?

    1. Dear Abi,
There has been reports where Thai Consulate in Dubai is asking non-Emirati applicants to show their AUE visa to make sure they stay in UAE for 21 days before they can apply for COE.
      Thank you.

  46. Hi there, I want to travel to koh samui, the island will open july 15th on the same sandbox rules than phuket. however, I canĀ“t find a direct flight from Berlin to koh samui. Only with a short stop at Bangkok. Is this ok or not?

    1. Dear Sonja,
      Good day.
You can arrange a flight from Berlin to Bangkok and from Bangkok to Samui with a designated Bangkok Airways (only) flight for Samui Sandbox. Another option, you can book a flight from Berlin to Samui with transit in Singapore.
      Thank you.

  47. Hi. In August I would like to fly from London to Phuket, transiting in Singapore. I would stay for 21 days. Is this possible as both are low/medium risk countries? I can only find information that says I must fly direct, but I cannot find a direct flight for the dates I want. Thank you

  48. Hello, is it true that Thai citizens cannot come to Phuket without 14 days quarantine? thank you

    1. Dear Philipp,
Due to the critical COVID situation in Bangkok, there might be a lockdown where people from Bangkok cannot travel to Phuket or other province. We have to wait for any updates on this.
      Thank you.

  49. Hi, I would like to ask some quick question.
Montenegro is a middle risk country, can we enter to Phuket as well?
There is no confirmation about our country on the list, So we would like to make sure.

    1. Dear Dejana,
      Good day.
Montenegro is not on the list of countries where a person can apply for a COE under Phuket Sandbox. There is an updated list as of July 9th.
      Thank you.

  50. Hi Rex,
Can I enter Phuket via flight transfer in a different country or does it have to be a direct flight only? Thanks.

  51. What must a local thai in bangkok do for travelling to Phuket? need to do any covid pcr test? and must apply for COE?

    1. Dear Bav,
If the person is traveling domestically, he or she only need show RT PCR COVID test result.
      Thank you.

  52. Dear Rex
I now have a COE dated 6 July 2021 issued by Thai Embassy London for Sandbox entry to Phuket on 16th July 2021 from UK.
Am I allowed entry on that date, even if UK is placed in Thailand’s RED category ?
    Thank You

    1. Dear Ray,
      Good day.
Congratulations. It must have been a difficult first week in applying for the COE. The Thai Embassy in London has now caught up and they are fast now in issuing the COEs. To answer your question, yes, you can still travel to Phuket with that COE unless there is a total ban of flights from LHR to HKT.
      Thank you.

  53. Hello,
does the SHABA confirmation letter with QR code (from SHA+ Hotel) include the first Covid 19 test at arrival Phuket airport?
    Thank you

    1. Dear Dieter,
      Good day.
No, it is only for the room booking. The hotel will give you another letter confirming you have paid for the COVID tests in advance.
      Thank you.

  54. Hi

I’m from HK and holding a UK passport, I completed the COE application form yesterday, may I know when it would be approved, as I would like to go to Phuket within these two days? Many thanks!

    1. Dear Candy,
If you have received the 6-digit reference ID, you can call the Thai Consulate and follow up your application.
      Thank you.

  55. I have family (wife and 2 daughters) in Phuket. Can I travel to Phuket under the sandbox plan and stay with my family instead of a hotel?

    1. Dear Andrew,
The Phuket Sandbox, as you can read on this page, requires for you to stay in SHA+ Hotel for 14 nights before you can move to your private accommodation. Your family can stay with you in your hotel. Also, there is a nightly check in your room. If you did not sleep in your room, you are risking yourself for a fine or deportation for violating the COVID restrictions. It is written in the COE and usually you will agree to it and you sign that COE.
      Thank you.

  56. To whom it may concern:
How many covid-19 test do I have to take when in Phuket?
Also how much is it going to cost for the covid-19 test

    Thanks
    Bruce

    1. Dear Bruce,
The tests are taken on Day 1, Day 6 or 7 and Day 12 or 13. So if your trip is only 1 week, you do the test is Day 1 and Day 6.
      Thank you.

  57. For the pre-flight rt-pcr test, does that need to be take 72 hours before departure or 72 hours before landing at your destination? Also is either a molecularly test or a antigen test ok. I can get results from a molecular test in a day but the antigen test takes longer.

    1. Dear DK,
It is within 72 hours before your international flight(out of your country). The test must be RT PCR test.
      Thank you.

  58. Considering those allowed in need to be fully vaccinated, the requirements are still too onerous and costly: too many expensive Covid tests, Covid insurance, and a tracking app on your phone.

Why so many covid tests for fully vaccinated people? And why Covid insurance when the risk of hospitalization is so low?

    1. Dear Sal,
      Good day.
I am not in the position to explain. It is the law and published already on the Royal Gazette. You always have an option. You can stay where you are now or if you want to “enjoy”, you can travel to Thailand and follow the set of rules.
      Thank you.

  59. Hi,

I am from the UK. I was going to travel to Dubai first for a week and then fly to Thailand – phuket sandbox. Can I do that.

    1. Dear Tasnim,
Yes you can do that. However there has been a report where Thai Consulate in Dubai may require for you to show your UAE entry stamp to make sure you stay in Dubai for 21 days before you fly to Thailand or before you apply for COE. It is recommend for you to call them first.
      Thank you.

  60. Hi Rex

I am getting my second vaccination on July 7th after which I will apply for the CoE, my flight is scheduled 17days later on July 24th. I guess this should be ok right?

    Regards
    Marcel

    1. Dear Wolfgang,
Yes, it is necessary to prepay the COVID test and also obtain the SHABA Booking certificate. I believe you need to pre-pay the hotel to get that SHABA certificate.
      Thank you.

    1. Dear Bill,
      Good day.
For now, you can do it through your hotel. Perhaps in the end of July, there will be a website to book the COVID test in advance.
      Thank you.

    2. Hi Rex.
Why do you keep deleting my question, which I have asked several times?
May I enter Phukhet, if am fully vaccinated, but still had Covid and now giving false positive tests? Is this somehow regulated?

    3. Dear Kaido,
No, I am not deleting comments. Your comments was just not approved yet. To answer your question, there is no guideline at this time for those travelers from abroad who recovered from COVID 19. The Phuket Sandbox are currently open for vaccinated travelers both Thais and foreigners.
      Thank you.

  61. hi after my 14 nights in Phuket is it ok fly to Bangkok for 7 nights ? if so would i need to use asq hotel ?

    1. Dear Greg,
      Good day.
No you do not need to do a quarantine. You only need to show your COVID test from your hotel in Phuket before you travel to Bangkok.
      Thank you.

    2. Hi,

I am UK citizen/passport however I am currently in Albania and I will have been for 21 days by the time I fly.. I am looking to apply for my COE however I cannot seem to find a Thai embassy in Albania.. is there a Thai embassy in Albania? Can you provide the address? I need the longer visa as I am coming to work in Thailand and there is more then 30 days until I start my job. Can I apply online?
      (Phuket sandbox – fully vaccinated)

    3. Dear Ish,
      Good day.
Please contact the Thai Embassy in Rome for your visa application and COE application.
      Thank you.

  62. On the Thai embassy site in Washington DC, there is an additional rule that states the traveler must have been in that country (for me, the US) for at least 21 consecutive days prior to departure. Its the first time I’ve seen this additional rule in all my Phuket Sandbox searches. I’ve already booked my flights from Thailand to the US, but will have been in the US for 18 consecutive days. Is this a problem? I will meet the 14 days rule for vaccination prior to leaving the US.

    1. Dear Eric,
      Good day.
If you can show that you were in Thailand within that 21 days before you traveled to the US for 18 days, then it should be alright.
      Thank you.

  63. Hi
Just one question, is Sweden low or medium risk country? Can i come to Phuket? I have had two vaccines.
    Best Regards
    Sam/Sweden

    1. Dear Sam,
      Good day.
Yes, the Thai Embassy in Stockholm can issue a COE or certificate of entry under Phuket Sandbox.
      Thank you.

  64. I have tried to get the COE application completed online but it asks me to upload other documents, such as visa etc. As a UK citizen going for a short holiday, we don’t need a visa so what do I do? Thanks, Gareth

    1. Dear Gareth,
      Good day.
It only means, you have chosen the wrong category. You should choose Visa Exemption as category.
      Thank you.

    2. My son who is 10 years old does not have any vaccinations can he still travel to Phuket ?

    3. Dear Roger,
Yes, he can still to Phuket along with a vaccinated parent or guardian. The child will be required to have COVID RT PCR test before the flight and upon arrival.
      Thank you.

    1. Dear David,
There is a specific date and flight number in that COE. You can only use that if you are traveling on those dates and on those flights.
      Thank you.

  65. I want to fly from uk can I do a connection flight or do I have to fly straight to Phuket. I know you canā€™t go via Bangkok
    Thank you
    Vito

    1. Dear Vito,
You can do a transit in Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Singapore.
      Thank you.

  66. Hello,
First of all thank you very much for this information.

I would like to travel to Phuket but I cannot take any direct flight. Can I do Dubai – Singapore (50mn stop) – Phuket?

I saw on some websites that we absolutely need to take a direct flight from our residence country.

Thanks a lot for your help.
    Asmaa

    1. Dear Asmaa,
Yes, you can definitely fly through Dubai, Doha or Singapore.
      Thank you.

  67. Is this right I can’t land in Bangkok air port then book a ticket to Phuket? I all ready booked a ticket from Canada to Bangkok do I need to change it now?

    1. Dear Terry,
If you want to enter using Phuket Sandbox, yes, you must change it. If you cannot change it, you can still enter Bangkok but you must quarantine for 14 nights.
      Thank you.

  68. Can Filipinos enter Phuket under the sandbox program? If so do they have to quarantine for 14 days? during isolation, can they leave the hotel during that time?

    1. Dear Steve,
      Good day.
At the moment the Thai Embassy in Manila cannot issue a COE under Phuket Sandbox program. They can only issue a COE with 14-day quarantine for Phuket or Bangkok.
      Thank you.

  69. Hi. Thanks again for your help!
    Two more questions please:
    (1) If I have a non-immigrant O visa but will arrive via Phuket Sandbox, what type of Permitted Person should be selected on the application?

    OA?
    TR?
    Exempt Medium Term?

    (2) I am reluctant to commit/pay up-front for 14 nights’ at a hotel where I have never stayed. Can I just book 7 nights and use the Shaba letter, and then add 7 night after I arrive for another SHA+ hotel?

    Thank you again

    1. Dear James,
      Good day.
I am not sure what is the basis of your Non Immigrant O visa. If it is under marriage to a Thai or having a Thai child, then you choose family of Thai nationals. If it is retirement, you can choose Long stay (O) category.
When you apply for the COE, you need to show SHABA Certificate for all the hotels where you will stay during the first 14 nights. You must stay in one SHA+ hotel on your first 7 nights.
      Thank you.

  70. Dear ladies and gentlemen,

I didnā€™t find the option for add children in the COE application. They also need the COE? And also need the covid insurance I think?

    Best regards

  71. Good day!
With COVID-19 cases are now averaging about 21,000 per day,
may I know why Russia is on the list of “safe” countries?

    1. Dear Mary,
The list that was issued by the TAT which includes Russia is based on the number of possible tourists that can travel from the country to Thailand, after all the purpose of Phuket Sandbox is to revive the tourism in Thailand.
      Thank you.

  72. Hi Rex,
    I’m referring the terms of:
“If you are staying less than 14 days in Phuket, you must fly out of Phuket to an international destination.”

If I will stay at Phuket for a week, am I allowed to fly out with transit via Bangkok international airport?

    thanks you

    1. Dear Jason,
      Good day.
The answer is no. You need to complete 14 days in Phuket before you can take a domestic flight to Bangkok. If your flight to Bangkok is a transit flight of an international flight and you do not need to disembark the aircraft, then it is possible.
      Thank you.

  73. Hi,

I am going to fly to Phuket on August 8th at the afternoon. Last day i can take the PCR test to get the result, is thursday August 4th. I will get the result in 24 hours, it means August 5th, but with the date of tesing = August 4th. Ich will arrive in Phuket on Agust 8th late, since August 4th expires at the moment of arriving maybe a little bit more than 72 hours. Does the clerk at the Airport let me in?

    1. Dear Richard,
      Good day.
You must take the test on August 5th or 6th. The airlines are very strict in counting the hours and minutes before your international flight.
      Thank you.

  74. Hello Rex,

Hope you are having a fantastic day. I have 3 questions

    1. I read that visits to other islands, Koh Phi Phi and James Bond island are prohibited unless you have stayed in Phuket for over 14 days, is this correct?

    2. If the above is correct, is a stay at Naka island permissible? The Naka Island Hotel is listed as a SHA+ hotel.

    3. Per the above article, it is permissible to transfer between SHA+ hotels. Is there any requirement that you must stay at a SHA+ hotel for a certain number of days before transferring?

    Thank you

    1. Dear Samantha,
      Good day.
      1. Koh phi Phi is in Krabi province and James Bond Island is in Phang Nga province so both are not within Phuket province.
      2. The Naka Island Phuket and The Naka Island, A Luxury Collection Resort and Spa are both listed as SHA+ Hotels.
      3. You have to stay for at least 7 nights in your first SHA+ Hotel and the remaining nights can be split between two other hotels (maximum).
      Thank you.

    1. Dear Anna,
Yes, you can do that. If you are flying from Germany, you need to apply for your COE in Germany also.
      Thank you.

  75. Hello Rex,

    I have 2 questions

    1. If my COE application is rejected, do I need to wait 15 days to re-apply or can I just update/ edit the application?

    2. Is the 15 days wait time before reapplying 15 working days or just 15 days total? …

** I am worried that my COE application will be rejected because I have not waited 2 weeks after the vaccine to apply, however, my departure flight will be 2 weeks after the vaccine.

    Thank you

    1. Dear Assaf,
      Good day.
If it was rejected on the first stage of application, you go to the yellow button and edit personal information.
If it was rejected on the second stage of application, you go to the red button and edit/confirm travel.
There is no need to wait for 15 days and there is no need to register again.
      Thank you.

  76. Hi there,

If fully vaccinated, do we need to do the quarantaine or we would be free to move around the city please?

    Many thanks,

    1. Dear Eliane,
      Good day.
After you have received the result of your COVID test upon arrival in Phuket, you are free to move around the Phuket province.
      Thank you.

  77. We are booked to come from the UK at the end of the month. We have two children (4 and 1) will they needs PCR tests before we fly? Will they need them once we are in Phuket?

    Thank you

    1. Dear Tasha,
      Good day.
Yes, the RT-PCR COVID-19 tests before the flight to Phuket are required for both parents and children.
      Thank you.

    2. Do you have the list of the countries that can/ can not travel to Thailand Phiket Sandbox?

    3. Dear Wanida,
Yes, as of June 30, 2021 there are 67 countries allowed to issue COE for Phuket Sandbox. If you read this page, you will be a list towards the bottom of the article.
      Thank you.

  78. We want to fly from Hong Kong to Phuket on July 15. However, we cannot find any direct flight, only with a self transit in Bangkok. Is it possible to fly via Bangkok with self transfer, meaning we would have to collect bagage and check in again?

    1. Dear Stephanie,
      Good day.
There is one flight Hong Kong-Singapore-Phuket. That is the best option for you.
      Thank you.

  79. Hi, I canā€™t find the list of high medium and low risk countries from July 1. The website is not working can you make sure you will post it?
So I know if Iā€™m allowed to get in.

    Best regards

    1. Dear Frits,
      Good day.
If you check this articles/page, you will that we uploaded the list as of June 30.
      Thank you.

  80. Dear Rex,
Good morning. My boss has Duplicate of Certificate of Residence valid till 1-Feb-22 and Alien Identification book valid till 25-Nov-22.
    1. My boss will take a flight to Phuket by Turkish airlines : Paris-Istanbul-Phuket. Is it ok for Phuket Sandbox?
    2. For Covid-19 insurance. Can he take for only 30 days or he must take 90 days?
    3. If you have any suggestion please let me know.
Thank you & best regards. Worawan

    1. Dear Worawan,
      Good day.
      1. Yes, a flight with transit in Turkey is acceptable.
      2. He must take a COVID Insurance valid until Feb 2022 that is around few months.
      Thank you.

  81. Regarding the travel insurance link you supply does it cover just me or will it cover my whole family?

    1. Dear Tina,
      Good day.
The required insurance is per person or per passport holder. So you have to buy insurance for each member of the family.
      Thank you.

  82. Turkish Airlines offer flights from Berlin via Istanbul to Phuket. Is that an option I can consider, or is there an issue with the transit via Istanbul?

    1. Dear Kathy,
      Good day.
Both Germany and Turkey are on the list of countries allowed for Phuket Sandbox so there should be no problem if you make a transit in Istanbul on your way to Phuket.
      Thank you.

  83. Hello,

I am from France, planning on going 40 days to Thailand starting in Phuket (14 day sandbox), and then going to Bangkok. Am i allowed to book the first Flight Paris to Phuket, and the way back Bangkok to Paris.
Or do I have to book leave from Phuket as well?

    Thanks!!

    1. Dear Theo,
      Good day.
Yes, it is allowed that you enter Thailand through Phuket and you leave Thailand from Bangkok. You just have to make sure that you apply for the COE under Phuket Sandbox and you purchase a COVID insurance that covers the whole duration of your stay in Thailand.
      Thank you.
