The best way to travel to Thailand during this time would be through the Test and Go scheme, however to those who are not from eligible countries, you are still allowed to enter Thailand but through different schemes which require mandatory quarantine for travelers.
There is this other option, the Blue Zone Sandbox program scheme which will only require you to stay for 7 days in a SHA+ hotel but unfortunately, these are exclusive for fully vaccinated travelers.
For unvaccinated travelers, you only have one option to travel to Thailand through the Happy Quarantine (Alternative Quarantine) scheme and undergo quarantine.
Note: Each scheme has different information, so please take note of the information about the Happy Quarantine (Alternative Quarantine) scheme below.
Happy Quarantine Nationwide
Thailand is open for international travelers, even for the unvaccinated travelers, but unlike the 2 other schemes, the Test and Go and Blue Zone, this scheme will require you to undergo longer mandatory quarantine upon arrival in Thailand before getting the chance to explore other Thailand destinations.
The unvaccinated travelers will be required in a:
- 10-day quarantine if they are air and sea arrivals.
- 14-day quarantine if they are land arrivals.
Unvaccinated travelers will have to stay in an Alternative Quarantine (AQ) hotels for 10 or 14 days and within the 10 or 14 days of stays in an alternative quarantine, the following is expected to happen:
For air and sea arrivals:
- Day 0-1: 1st RT-PCR Test
- Day 8-9: 2nd RT-PCR Test
For land arrivals:
- Day 0-1: 1st RT-PCR Test
- Day 12-13: 2nd RT-PCR Test
Again, only after your 10-day or 14-day stay will you be able to go to other Thailand destinations. And if you are a traveler staying under 10 days or 14 days, you are required to fly to other countries after your desired few stays in Thailand.
Entry Requirements for Happy Quarantine (Alternative Quarantine) Travelers
Traveling to Thailand in Happy Quarantine (Alternative Quarantine), like the 2 other schemes, still require entry requirements. Here are the requirements to present to authorities before departure and upon arrival that a traveler should have:
Thailand Pass QR Code
To apply for the Thailand Pass QR code, visit the website https://tp.consular.go.th/. To get the Thailand Pass QR Code, you will need to fill in the needed information and upload the required documents, then wait for the approval.
Thailand Pass is the replacement for the Certificate of Entry (COE). To know more about the new system, visit the Thailand Pass page.
Medical Insurance Policy or COVID-19 Insurance
Medical insurance or COVID-19 insurance with a minimum coverage of $50,000 is required. If you test positive for COVID-19 during your stay in Thailand, the insurance will cover all COVID-19-related incidents.
Thai nationals traveling back to Thailand will not need this requirement at all.
You may get your COVID-19 Insurance here: https://u.axa.co.th/Sawasdee_Siamlegal
Medical Certificate for COVID-19 Result
A medical certificate detailing that you are negative from a COVID-19 RT-PCR test will be needed for non-Thai nationals. The issuance of the medical certificate shall be no longer than 72 hours before your intended schedule of departure.
Thai nationals traveling back to Thailand are not required to have a medical certificate but it is suggested.
Payment Confirmation for Alternative Quarantine (AQ) Hotel Reservation
Unvaccinated travelers traveling to Thailand are required to book an Alternative Quarantine (AQ) hotel for at least 10 days or 14 days that will cover their required days of stay in a secured area.
The hotel reservation shall include:
- RT-PCR COVID-19 Test
- Pre-arranged airport transfer
